Facilities, Maintenance & Security
Mission: The mission of the Tennessee School for the Deaf Facilities Management Department is to promote and maintain a technologically-evolving campus and to ensure a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment conducive to the education of hard of hearing and deaf students by performing preventative measures, initiating timely responses, and working together to provide the best learning environment for the students at Tennessee School for the Deaf.
Campus Safety and Security
The Tennessee School for the Deaf Security Department provides a safe learning environment for the students and staff of TSD 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by controlling visitor access, actively monitoring building and fire alarms, patrolling the 90-acre campus, and securing the 40+ campus buildings. The department strives to communicate effectively with all staff, students, and visitors through continued training and technology implementation, focus on teamwork, and accomplish the shared goal of providing the best learning environment for the students of TSD.
The Security Department utilizes the Raptor Visitor Management System to strengthen campus safety for students and faculty by screening visitors, contractors, and volunteers entering our campus against the National Sex Offender Registry. When visiting campus, individuals will be required to have an appointment with a staff member and will be asked to provide a photo ID for screening before being allowed access to campus.
In support of campus-wide safety goals, the TSD Emergency Operations Team has developed and implemented an Emergency Operations Plan that coordinates with the National Incident Management System developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. This ensures consistency in communication among responding agencies in order to better prevent, mitigate, and recover from emergencies.
