LEA Outreach

LEA outreach services through Tennessee Schools for the Deaf (TSD), including TSD, Knoxville; TSD, Nashville; and WTSD located in Jackson, are provided to local education agencies at absolutely no cost through the Tennessee Department of Education. The TSD outreach coordinators and consultants will schedule a site visit to school systems at the request of LEA special education supervisors, direct service providers for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, or classroom teachers. We do program, classroom, and student observations and consultation, and then provide educational and IEP-based recommendations to your school system, assisting your teachers and service providers in serving deaf and hard of hearing students in the most appropriate and least restrictive way possible. Support services offered by TSD to all school systems in our state include, but are not limited to, behavioral, audiological, and psycho-educational assessments; loaning of FM systems and other auditory training equipment; parental outreach and support; interpreter evaluation; and classroom or program consultation. We also deliver professional development on any topic related to the education of deaf and hard of hearing students tailored to school system needs, including interpreter training.
