Description
The Department of Student Life Cottage Program provides a learning and independent living environment where students and develop to their fullest potential. A Youth Service Worker 1 is responsible for assisting in the development of students in a residential setting assisting with educational, emotional, and social development of students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• All counselors report to their established supervisor and dean
• Counselors provide on-going care and training for deaf students
• Administer the rules and regulations of TSD
• Receive visitors
• Accompany students on field trips
• Maintain safety of assigned students
• Keep records and make reports
• Maintain high personal standards as a role model for students
• Plan and direct learning, living and recreational activities
• Build and maintain appropriate rapport with students, staff and parents
• Counsel students
• Answer phone calls and deal with crisis situations
• Identify and fulfill emotional and social needs of students
• Assist in the development and implementation of the Individual Program Plan and work 37.5 hours per week during evenings and weekends
• Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements
• High School diploma or GED
• Associates Degree (preferred)
• Valid Tennessee Driver’s License
• Child care experience (preferred)

Preferred KSA’s:

• Scheduling and Time management skills
• Planning and preparing meals for groups of students
• Ability to identify student needs
• Problem solving skills to address various situations
• Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) preferred
• Ability to work with a team of employees
• Goal oriented and student focused
• Ability to manage multiple students alone
• Ability to follow assignments as provided by Supervisor
Salary
State of Tennessee Salary Grade 018, $1,785 – $2,855
