
POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
YSW 1 SECURITY OFFICER
SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Security, officers may work all shifts, including weekends, and holidays. They patrol, monitor alarm systems, investigate incidents, make written reports, and act as a switchboard operator. They secure buildings, prevent and calm civil disturbances, promote positive public relations, manage disorderly persons, conduct safety and security inspections and any others duties so assigned by their supervisor. As part of your duties, you may be required to mentor a TSD student in the TSD Work Based Learning Program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be in good physical condition. They must be able to remain in one location or position for extended periods of time; capable of maintaining order in stressful, dangerous situations. Applicants must be able to communicate clearly over the telephone, two-way radio units, operate a TDD to communicate with deaf persons. Applicant must be able to respond to emergency personnel. Applicant must become proficient in sign language at the level established for this position within the Tennessee School for the Deaf Sign Communication Program as demonstrated by an appropriate assessment tool. Training will be provided.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School graduate or GED, must have valid Tennessee Driver's license and be willing to be fingerprinted and required to have a TBI/FBI background check. In addition, background checks will be conducted through the Tennessee of Registry of Sexual Offences, the Tennessee Registry of Abuses, and the Tennessee Child Protective Services Background Check. One (1) year of security experience preferred but not required. Experience operating security and alarm systems preferred but not required. This is a twelve (12) month position.
STARTING SALARY AND BENEFITS: $1,745 - $2,792. The state makes available to the employee: medical insurance, retirement (401K availability), annual and sick leave, and longevity bonus.
